February 1, 2025: The Ringling Museum presents Free Family Day with free admission to the museum for families, and art-making in the MakerSpace using botanical debris from Hurricane Milton. We hope you can find solace on our campus and in works of art, as well as a mindful reprieve in art-making at The Ringling. No registration is required. FAM (Family Art Making) is a free program that's fun for the whole family! Join us for creative art projects inspired by an object in our collections. Afterwards, visit the museum to see that object in person! You will be able to visit the Museum of Art and the Circus Museum with your FAM wristband that is provided at check-in. Tickets: This program is free, however tickets are required. Tickets are limited and will be available online approx. 14 days prior to each program. Some of the sights, sounds, and tastes you can expect are as follows: Bagpipe Band and Solo Competitions, Highland Athletic Competitions, Best Shortbread, Whiskey Tasting, Scottish Dancers, modern Celtic Rock mixed with traditional music, great ethnic food, and adult beverages for all. February 1, 2025: Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers. Thousands of blooming orchids will be for sale and on display in 17 artistically designed exhibits. Orchid art, accessories and supplies will also be for sale. February 1 - 15, 2025: It's the 36th Annual Gulf Coast Games for Life. The Gulf Coast Games for Life is a multi-sport event program for amateur athletes 50 and over. Events take place in Sarasota County, Manatee County and the City of North Port.16 events: Archery, Bag Toss (Corn Hole), Basketball Shooting, Bowling, Cycling, Golf, Pickleball, Race Walk/Power Walk, Racquetball, 5K Road Race, Rowing and Paddle, Shuffleboard, Swimming, Table Tennis, Target Shooting, Track and Field. The 2025 Gulf Coast Games for Life is a qualifier for the Florida Senior Games State Championship. One-time registration fee of $13. Entry fee of $4 per event. February 1 - March 16, 2025: Fox Lea Farm is hosting the 10th Annual "Show Jumping Under the Stars" Grand Prix series during the Venice Equestrian Tour Winter Horse Show Series offering over $1,000,000 of prize money. This annual nine-week Hunter/Jumper series will feature Show Jumping Under the Stars every Friday night, where you can watch world-class talent as they compete for a chance for a piece of the $25,000 purse. February 1 - April 13, 2025: Sarasota's Bayfront Park has been the backdrop for Embracing Our Differences' colorful, larger-than-life canvases integrating powerful imagery and thought-provoking messages celebrating diversity. The scale and impact of this outdoor exhibition has continued to grow. In 2023, 320,616 people visited the exhibition—bringing the total amount of visitors to more than 4.3 million since 2004. The 2023 Exhibit has had an impressive response to the call for artwork and inspirational quotes, with 13,733 entries pouring in from 119 countries and 45 states. February 2, 2025: It's the free Art and Culture Festival to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Snake. This year’s function promises a two-hour cultural experience with art, music, and special dance performances. Hosted by the Sister Cities Association of Sarasota and the Ringling College of Art + Design. SCAS is honored to partner with the Ringling College of Art + Design in Sarasota in hosting this event. Experience Chinese music and the traditional Lion Dance through performance by regional artists. Learn about the art of Chinese calligraphy, paper-folding, and tea ceremonies among other features of Chinese culture. February 3, 2025: It's Monday Night Jazz at the Court Cabaret. Jazz at FST’s John C. Court Cabaret features vocalist Scotty Wright Quintet presenting “What is the Thing?” Jazz singer Scotty Wright and his colleagues present a selection of songs that explore the many moods and emotions associated with this thing called love. February 5, 2025: It's a free concert with live music with the Gentlemen of Jazz. Music selections represent traditional jazz from the 1920s and 30s to hot jazz and swing of the 20's and 30's. It's a traditional American art form that provided the basis for many songs that now comprise the Great American Song Book. February 8, 2025: The Circus Ring of Fame® Foundation announced that its annual awards ceremony, originally scheduled for February 8, 2025, at the Circus Sarasota Big Top, will be postponed until 2026 due to extensive damage from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. It's a celebration of circus history and heritage as The 36th Annual Circus Ring of Fame formal induction will take place at The Circus Ring of Fame Awards show at 4:30 p.m. The Awards Show will take place in the Circus Sarasota Big Top at Nathan Benderson Park Regatta Center. February 8 - April 20, 2025: Rich cultural experiences are coming to the heart of Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach as ZimSculpt, a renowned exhibition of Zimbabwean stone sculptures, returns to Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens. The Gardens will host over 2,000 hand-carved stone sculptures Two artists will be on-site daily, demonstrating their craft and sharing insights into the stone carving process. February 9 - June 29, 2025: Marie Selby Botanical Gardens will present George Harrison: A Gardener’s Life, which examines the work of major artists through the lens of their connection to nature and will explore the deep and meaningful connection between musician George Harrison – best known as the lead guitarist of the legendary rock band The Beatles – and the pastime of gardening, which became his greatest passion. George’s love of gardening was an integral part of his identity. In an interview in Rolling Stone magazine in 1979, the renowned singer-songwriter described himself as “just a gardener.” His strong association with gardening was further illustrated in his 1980 autobiography, I Me Mine, dedicated “to gardeners everywhere.” A selection of special programs will be scheduled throughout the run of the exhibit. February 22, 2025: Water sports is the order of the day at the annual Bradenton Area River Regatta on the Manatee River just east of the Green Bridge. Watch the boat races from either the Bradenton or Palmetto river fronts or on the bridge itself. It's a free event featuring Formula 2 powerboat racing. February 22, 2025: It's the 36th annual Engineers Week Toothpick Bridge Building Contest - a fun, annual event for students in the Sarasota & Manatee County area. February 22, 2025: Kids and kids at heart can enjoy fun art and nature activities as Family Saturdays Return to Selby Gardens’ Downtown Sarasota Campus. Several activity stations with different art projects will be set up in the Ann Goldstein Children’s Rainforest Garden during each monthly event. Elementary school age children will have the opportunity to create their own nature-inspired art with a variety of materials. Similar events scheduled for March 29, April 26, and May 31. Activities will run from 10 a.m. to noon each session, and participation is included in admission to the Gardens, which is always free for Selby Gardens members.
