March 1, 2025: The Ringling Museum presents Free Family Day with free admission to the museum for families, and art-making in the MakerSpace using botanical debris from Hurricane Milton. We hope you can find solace on our campus and in works of art, as well as a mindful reprieve in art-making at The Ringling. No registration is required. FAM (Family Art Making) is a free program that's fun for the whole family! Join us for creative art projects inspired by an object in our collections. Afterwards, visit the museum to see that object in person! You will be able to visit the Museum of Art and the Circus Museum with your FAM wristband that is provided at check-in. Tickets: This program is free, however tickets are required. Tickets are limited and will be available online approx. 14 days prior to each program. March 1, 2024: It's the first Friday of the month so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. with Eireann’s Call will fill the air with Celtic rock, rockin’ bagpipes, blistering fiddle, and tight vocal harmonies and the event will benefit Manatee Children’s Services. Beer, wine and food sales. Check out the fountain area for a balloon twister, face painting, and fun. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. March 1 - 3, 2024: Check out the Englewood Food Truck Rally & Music Festival. The festivities begin on Friday, with the park coming alive with food trucks and music from 4pm to 10pm. As the weekend rolls in, the rally continues on Saturday, offering a smorgasbord of delights from 11am to 10pm. We’ll wrap up the festival on Sunday, with more food and music from 11am to 6pm. As you explore the culinary offerings, you’ll also get to enjoy the Music Festival, in addition to a marketplace of arts, crafts, and specialty products. March 1 - April 14, 2024: Sarasota's Bayfront Park has been the backdrop for Embracing Our Differences' colorful, larger-than-life canvases integrating powerful imagery and thought-provoking messages celebrating diversity. The scale and impact of this outdoor exhibition has continued to grow. In 2023, 320,616 people visited the exhibition—bringing the total amount of visitors to more than 4.3 million since 2004. The 2023 Exhibit has had an impressive response to the call for artwork and inspirational quotes, with 13,733 entries pouring in from 119 countries and 45 states. Students from 424 schools around the world submitted artwork or quotes.. (Park entrance is located at the corner of Ringling Boulevard and Bayfront Drive/US Route 41). March 1 - June 29, 2025: Marie Selby Botanical Gardens will present George Harrison: A Gardener’s Life, which examines the work of major artists through the lens of their connection to nature and will explore the deep and meaningful connection between musician George Harrison – best known as the lead guitarist of the legendary rock band The Beatles – and the pastime of gardening, which became his greatest passion. George’s love of gardening was an integral part of his identity. In an interview in Rolling Stone magazine in 1979, the renowned singer-songwriter described himself as “just a gardener.” His strong association with gardening was further illustrated in his 1980 autobiography, I Me Mine, dedicated “to gardeners everywhere.” A selection of special programs will be scheduled throughout the run of the exhibit. March 2 - 3, 2024: It's the 2024 Megalodon Challenge with the Shark's Tooth 10K & the Shark Fin 5K! The iconic Shark's Tooth 10K will be professionally chip-timed with custom finisher medals and locally printed custom race shirts. One of the favorite races for locals and visitors alike. March 3, 2024: It's the Gamble Plantation Historic State Park 62nd Annual UDC Spring Open House. During the Mansion's 'free tours' see the many lifestyle demonstrations of the era of the 1840’s - 1870’s. The ladies of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will be wearing costumes reminiscent of the era of the 1840’s through 1870’s to add that special touch of authenticity to the day. March 5, 2025: It's a free concert with live music with the Gentlemen of Jazz. Music selections represent traditional jazz from the 1920s and 30s to hot jazz and swing of the 20's and 30's. It's a traditional American art form that provided the basis for many songs that now comprise the Great American Song Book. March 7, 2024: Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources' Beach University series returns to the Siesta Beach main pavilion. In partnership with the Siesta Beach Ambassador volunteer program, this free educational series invites community members and visitors to learn about coastal environments in one-hour sessions. Beach University sessions are from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., every Thursday in March at the main pavilion on Siesta Beach, 948 Beach Road on Siesta Key. Free for ages 10 and up. In Experiencing Myakka's Magic: Myakka's Leafy Legends, Master Naturalist (and FOMR Member) Steve White will focus on seven park plants that are both common AND have fascinating stories. March 9, 2024: It's the Palmetto’s Heritage Festival at Palmetto Historical Park & Manatee County Agricultural Museum. This FREE event will have a park open house and activities for the whole family. The 1880 Heritage Station Post Office will be operational with a one-day-only cancellation designed by Kaylee Schauer, a local middle school student. Bring your stamped mail! Word of Mouth BBQ and Frosted Pink Artisan Cookies will be on site with delicious food available for purchase. A special feature of this year’s Heritage Festival is The Original Florida Highwaymen Art Show & Sale. The Florida Highwaymen are a small group of African American landscape artists who began painting in the late 1950s. The paintings were then sold out of the trunk of their cars, as the artists went from door to door at homes and business offices or set up shop on a busy corner at the side of the road. Their bright and sultry images of Florida’s tropical beauty were sold for as little as twenty or thirty dollars. March 10, 2024: The region’s best Bus Operators will be putting their skills on display at the annual Tampa Bay Area Regional Bus Roadeo and Technology Expo. The bus rodeo tests service delivery operating skills in a series of competitions around a test road course set up with cones, barrels and bus stops. Transit bus maintenance skills are also part of the event, as each agency’s maintenance technician team is evaluated on their overall knowledge and diagnostic skills. The competition will determine the most skilled bus operators and maintenance technicians in the state. One transit agency will be declared the overall winner for the “Best of the Bay” competition. In addition, the first-place transit and paratransit winners from each respective transit agency will advance to the Florida State Five-Star Bus Roadeo in Jacksonville on April 19 to 20, 2024. March 14, 2024: Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources' Beach University series returns to the Siesta Beach main pavilion. March 29, 2024: A Stations Of The Cross observance will be held. This Good Friday is the 23rd year Sarasota will observe the worldwide STATIONS of the Cross tradition. What began in mid-15 th century Jerusalem is now observed in over 200 nations, especially on Good Friday of Holy Week. In past years, the procession was confined to the north sidewalk of Main Street. Since 2011, the Sarasota Police Department escort has facilitated the procession so that pilgrims can now walk down the center of Main Street. In 2023, nearly 1,000 pilgrims participated. Everyone is invited to Walk Your Faith this Holy Week by experiencing “The Way” or “STATIONS of the Cross” on March 29. Twenty-six Ministers of fourteen Denominations will take part in this Sarasota happening. With six denominational Deans/Principals participating, over 100 congregations are represented. The procession will stop for worship and prayer at each of the 14 STATIONS. The STATIONS of the Cross journey offers an opportunity to reflect on the different moments of Christ’s passion journey. A service booklet sharing the acts of worship for each STATION will be distributed to all pilgrims. Pilgrims begin to gather at 7 a.m. and the pilgrimage starts at 7:20 a.m. on Main Street at the Regal Hollywood movie theater, 1993 Main St., Sarasota, FL. For those who would like to park at the final station (Church of the Redeemer, 222 S. Palm Ave.), complimentary Siesta Trolley service will transport pilgrims from Redeemer to Regal Hollywood starting at 6 a.m. The pilgrimage will conclude at about 8:30 a.m. A Sarasota Police Department escort will be controlling traffic and providing security.
