March 1, 2025: The Friendship Knot Quilt Guild presents their quilt show "2025 Quilts in Paradise." Over 200 show quilts and challenge quilts will be on display, with a special exhibit of "Antique and Heirloom Quilts". They will be auctioning off small wall quilts and a nice variety of quilt blocks ready to be made into the quilt of your choice. For those interested in purchasing quilts and other items there will be a Quilter's Market, where members can offer their quilt artistry for sale. March 1, 2025: It's the Palmetto’s Heritage Festival at Palmetto Historical Park & Manatee County Agricultural Museum. Fun for all ages with activities throughout the park. This FREE event will have a park open house and activities for the whole family. Tour all 7 on-site buildings in a historic open house. The 1880 Heritage Station Post Office will be operational with a one-day-only cancellation designed by a local student artist. Bring your stamped mail! Enjoy heritage crafts for all ages. March 1, 2025: The Ringling Museum presents Free Family Day with free admission to the museum for families, and art-making in the MakerSpace using botanical debris from Hurricane Milton. We hope you can find solace on our campus and in works of art, as well as a mindful reprieve in art-making at The Ringling. No registration is required. FAM (Family Art Making) is a free program that's fun for the whole family! Join us for creative art projects inspired by an object in our collections. Afterwards, visit the museum to see that object in person! You will be able to visit the Museum of Art and the Circus Museum with your FAM wristband that is provided at check-in. March 1 - March 16, 2025: Fox Lea Farm is hosting the 10th Annual "Show Jumping Under the Stars" Grand Prix series during the Venice Equestrian Tour Winter Horse Show Series offering over $1,000,000 of prize money. This annual nine-week Hunter/Jumper series will feature Show Jumping Under the Stars every Friday night, where you can watch world-class talent as they compete for a chance for a piece of the $25,000 purse. March 1 - April 13, 2025: Sarasota's Bayfront Park has been the backdrop for Embracing Our Differences' colorful, larger-than-life canvases integrating powerful imagery and thought-provoking messages celebrating diversity. The scale and impact of this outdoor exhibition has continued to grow. In 2023, 320,616 people visited the exhibition—bringing the total amount of visitors to more than 4.3 million since 2004. The 2023 Exhibit has had an impressive response to the call for artwork and inspirational quotes, with 13,733 entries pouring in from 119 countries and 45 states. Students from 424 schools around the world submitted artwork or quotes.. (Park entrance is located at the corner of Ringling Boulevard and Bayfront Drive/US Route 41). March 1 - June 29, 2025: Marie Selby Botanical Gardens will present George Harrison: A Gardener’s Life, which examines the work of major artists through the lens of their connection to nature and will explore the deep and meaningful connection between musician George Harrison – best known as the lead guitarist of the legendary rock band The Beatles – and the pastime of gardening, which became his greatest passion. George’s love of gardening was an integral part of his identity. In an interview in Rolling Stone magazine in 1979, the renowned singer-songwriter described himself as “just a gardener.” His strong association with gardening was further illustrated in his 1980 autobiography, I Me Mine, dedicated “to gardeners everywhere.” A selection of special programs will be scheduled throughout the run of the exhibit. A highlight will be An Evening with Patti Smith Dedicated to George Harrison on February 12 at Selby Gardens' Downtown Sarasota campus featuring Selby Gardens' iconic Artist in Residence Patti Smith. March 2, 2025: It's the Gamble Plantation Historic State Park 63rd Annual UDC Spring Open House. During the Mansion's 'free tours' see the many lifestyle demonstrations of the era of the 1840’s - 1870’s. The ladies of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will be wearing costumes reminiscent of the era of the 1840’s through 1870’s to add that special touch of authenticity to the day. The Gamble Mansion will be open to the public with free tours of the building. There will be music, crafts and fun for everyone. March 4 - 5, 2025: Enjoy free tours of the historic Powel Crosley Estate during a two-day open house event. Formally known as “Seagate,” the Mediterranean Revival-style mansion house built in 1929 once served as the winter home of Powel Crosley. The American innovator was most revered for revolutionizing entertainment, manufacturing Crosley radios and for owning the 500,000-watt station WLW, the most powerful of its time. March 5, 2025: It's a free concert with live music with the Gentlemen of Jazz. Music selections represent traditional jazz from the 1920s and 30s to hot jazz and swing of the 20's and 30's. It's a traditional American art form that provided the basis for many songs that now comprise the Great American Song Book. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit around the Gazebo where musicians perform. March 6, 2025: Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources' Beach University series returns to the Siesta Beach main pavilion. In partnership with the Siesta Beach Ambassador volunteer program, this free educational series invites community members and visitors to learn about coastal environments in one-hour sessions. Beach University sessions are from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., at the main pavilion on Siesta Beach. (Last year they were every Thursday in March at the main pavilion on Siesta Beach), 948 Beach Road on Siesta Key. Free for ages 10 and up. March 7, 2025: Check out some heavenly bodies at Sidewalk Astronomy at The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature in downtown Bradenton for a FREE evening of observing through their telescopes. At this free event, you’ll have a chance to see Mars, Jupiter, Venus, the Moon and much more through their powerful telescopes! In addition to telescopes and tacos, you’ll have a chance to see The Bishop’s Planetarium show, Two Small Pieces of Glass: The Amazing Telescope at 7:00,7:30, and 8:00 p.m. for just $3.00 a person. (The Planetarium shows are free for museum members.) The Bishop has also arranged to have several food and beverage trucks in the courtyard for you to enjoy a bite to eat while observing the universe. March 7, 2025: It's the first Friday of the month so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. MonkeyFinger will fill the air with classic rock, pop and a sprinkle of hair metal and the event will benefit Lakewood Ranch Community Activities. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. March 8, 2025: The Sarasota County Fire Department (SCFD) is excited to continue its monthly open house events in 2025, inviting the community to connect with their local firefighters and learn about fire safety. These free, family-friendly open houses are held one Saturday each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Car seat safety inspections and bike helmet fittings will also be available. March 8, 2025: Check it out. Cemetery Tours Are Back at Manatee Village Historical Park! It's a free, hour-long tour of the 1850 Manatee Burying Grounds led by a member of Manatee Village's staff. Tours cover different facets of life during Manatee's Founding Period (1840-1918) as well as stories of those buried in the burying grounds. This multisensory exhibition is the first to explore the integral role that art and material culture played for mediums and magicians “conjuring” or “proving” the existence of spirits, better known as the spiritualist movement, that took root across the United States and Europe in the second half of the nineteenth century and continues today. March 22, 2025: Check it out. Cemetery Tours Are Back at Manatee Village Historical Park! It's a free, hour-long tour of the 1850 Manatee Burying Grounds led by a member of Manatee Village's staff. Tours cover different facets of life during Manatee's Founding Period (1840-1918) as well as stories of those buried in the burying grounds. March 23, 2025: It's the "Tour de Parks Fun Ride" on The Legacy Trail to celebrate its anniversary. It's an on-road bicycle tour of varying distances along the paved trails and roads of Sarasota County. March 29, 2025: Kids and kids at heart can enjoy fun art and nature activities as Family Saturdays Return to Selby Gardens’ Downtown Sarasota Campus. Several activity stations with different art projects will be set up in the Ann Goldstein Children’s Rainforest Garden during each monthly event. Elementary school age children will have the opportunity to create their own nature-inspired art with a variety of materials. Similar events scheduled for April 26, and May 31. Activities will run from 10 a.m. to noon each session, and participation is included in admission to the Gardens, which is always free for Selby Gardens members.
